ARCTUS
Environmental studies
Global climate changes and human activities are putting pressure on natural ecosystems. This is particularly true at northern latitudes where environmental changes are ongoing at higher rates than everywhere else on the Planet. During the last decades, Earth Observation (EO) technologies have been revealed as a unique tool to detect changes in remote and often inaccessible northern regions. Remote sensing provides continuous georeferenced images of the Earth's surface that can be used to monitor environmental changes and to better understand the response of the natural ecosystems to global changes and human activities.
Next generation of Earth Observation missions will provide an unprecedented amount of data for natural sciences (e.g., climatology, oceanography, hydrology, limnology) and their applications. ARCTUS is a private R&D company aiming at making advances in research on EO technologies available to governmental agencies, to scientific communities and to the general public. [Details]

C.B.E.M Ltd
Marine consultants
C.B. Marine’s mission is to innovate in the field of electronic positioning systems for the maritime industry, giving companies who build such systems the ability to meet the needs of vessel operators such the captains, officers and commercial fleet operators. Navigation has changed enormously since the sextant era, and efficient modern electronic devices now “facilitate” the work of ships’ officers.
But beware: this apparent “facilitation” depends on the reliability of the systems and the ability of the captains and officers to use these tools. Navigation systems and software have developed great sophistication and complexity in a very short time span.
Unfortunately, some navigation systems fail to meet the ship operator’s needs simply because they are not user-friendly. C.B. Marine offers a revolutionary approach to designers of these new technologies, to ensure that users of these new navigational tools will be completely satisfied with their performance.
To accomplish this, C.B. Marine offers manufacturer’s of electronic navigation systems the following services: validation of systems before they are put on the market; design and production of clearly written instruction manuals that meet the needs of the operators; design and production of training manuals to help operators use the new navigation system with ease and good judgment.

Océanide inc.
Port and marine engineering
Our mission: understand, inform, and protect. Analyze to improve understanding, understand to improve information, and inform to improve management.
Océanide was founded in 1982, composed of a team of experts involved primarily in the atmospheric and oceanographic sectors and in coastal and marine engineering. Mathematical modeling of fluids using the finite element method has emerged as one of our key areas of activity. The company’s defining accomplishment to date is the development of a three-dimensional atmospheric model for atmospheric, hydrodynamic and environmental modeling based on finite element analysis and built around our exclusive 2D and 3D software. We conduct ongoing research and development on these models to add new modules and improve performance, so the models are constantly evolving. Océanide provides expertise for various types of environmental impact studies and offers its clients assistance directly or in partnership with other engineering firms. For example, for the construction or modification of port structures, we are able to study the meteorological, hydrographic, hydrodynamic and sedimentary aspects, including changes and turbulence due to wave action. We are also able to study numerous phenomena related to water and air circulation, as well as the processes that occur at their interface. The company’s staff has solid experience in oceanography and in marine and coastal engineering, particularly in the use of scientific instruments of all kinds: current meters, tide gauges, swell gauges and autonomous or drifting buoys. We are also able to perform real-time 24/7 monitoring of the main atmospheric (wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure, etc.) and oceanographic parameters (tide, waves, currents, etc.). We have developed and own numerous software programs for processing and analysis of oceanographic and meteorological data. Our experts have more than 30 years of experience in developing programs for field measurement. These sampling programs may be used to validate results or to set the initial conditions and open boundary conditions for client models.
